At the Ocala Breeders’ Sales (OBS) Spring 2-Year-Olds in Training Sale finale on April 17, a colt by Flightline (Hip 1056) ignited a bidding frenzy, ultimately selling for a record-breaking $10.5 million to Zedan Racing stable. This sale price shattered the previous juvenile record held by Grade 1 winner Brant, also purchased by Zedan. Bred in Kentucky by Edward and Beverly Seltzer and W.S. Farish, the colt impressed with a swift furlong breeze and drew comparisons to Unbridled’s Song by trainer Bob Baffert. The colt’s pedigree includes Flightline, the 2022 Horse of the Year, and graded-placed stakes winner Lucrezia, by Into Mischief.
The OBS Spring Sale set new records across all metrics, with a gross of $113.8 million from 637 horses, surpassing last year’s figures. Hartley/DeRenzo Thoroughbreds, consignors of the Flightline colt, also sold a $2.3 million filly by Jackie’s Warrior, marking their dominance as leading consignors. The sale showcased strong demand across all price tiers, with industry leaders praising the quality and class of the top horses, likening the Flightline colt to a “LeBron James” of the sale. OBS now looks ahead to its June 2-Year-Olds and Horses of Racing Age Sale.
