Exploring Equine-Facilitated Therapy at Muirfield Riding Therapy

Paul McLennan visited Muirfield Riding Therapy, a West Fenton-based charity founded in 1989 that provides equine-facilitated therapy. The charity is run by 200 volunteers, including occupational therapists and physiotherapists. The oldest therapy pony at the charity, Uist, is 27 years old and participates in non-ridden sessions due to his steady nature.

McLennan expressed his admiration for the work of Muirfield Riding Therapy and was able to observe therapy sessions in action and speak with volunteers. He noted that the activities with horses clearly promote physical and mental health. The charity’s equine-facilitated therapy involves activities with horses to benefit participants’ well-being.

Debs McLaughlin, a session volunteer and fundraising manager at the charity, was pleased to host McLennan and his team. She mentioned their enthusiasm for the charity’s work and expressed gratitude for their visit. McLaughlin also noted that Uist, the therapy pony, gained a new fan in McLennan.
