Comedian Ellen DeGeneres and her wife, Portia de Rossi, initially planned to sell their expansive historic farmhouse in the Cotswolds, U.K., less than a year after listing it for $30 million. The couple had purchased the property in 2024 as a vacation home but decided to relocate to the U.K. full-time following Donald Trump’s presidential victory. After buying a more modern nearby home and putting the original farmhouse on the market, they have since removed the listing and are now planning extensive renovations, including building an all-weather equestrian facility to accommodate de Rossi’s horses, signaling their intent to make the farmhouse their long-term residence.
The couple has invested millions in renovating the 43-acre property, which faces challenges such as flooding and the presence of historically significant Roman remains, requiring archaeological oversight during construction. While they continue to split their time between their U.K. homes and a newly purchased California estate, DeGeneres has expressed a strong affinity for life in England, praising the treatment of animals and the local culture. Their plans hinge on securing planning permission for the equestrian facilities, which would allow them to fully settle into the Cotswolds farmhouse as their primary home.
