Dr. Dionne Benson and Cricket Goodall will be honored with the Special Award of Merit on May 14 at the Alibi Breakfast at Laurel Park, recognizing their significant contributions to the horse racing industry. Dr. Benson, the first Chief Veterinary Officer of 1/ST Racing, is renowned for her expertise in equine science, veterinary safety, and medication regulation, having previously led the Racing Medication and Testing Consortium. Goodall, Executive Director of the Maryland Horse Breeders Association and related organizations, has played a pivotal role in promoting Maryland’s horse industry since 1986, notably helping to grow Maryland Million Day into a major racing event.
The Alibi Breakfast, a longstanding tradition dating back to the 1930s at Pimlico Race Course, brings together owners, trainers, jockeys, media, and fans to celebrate the Preakness Stakes with race predictions and camaraderie. Tickets for the event, which runs from 9-11 a.m., are available online, offering fans a chance to mingle with key figures in the racing community.
