Conejo Creek Park West Plans Evolve with Proposed Additions Amid Community Debate

The Conejo Recreation and Park District (CRPD) is considering expanding the uses of Conejo Creek Park West, a 50-acre property traditionally dedicated to equestrian activities, to include amenities such as picnic areas, a remote control car track, pickleball courts, and additional parking. This proposal follows community feedback gathered through multiple meetings and a survey of over 2,300 residents. While the district aims to provide diverse recreational opportunities for the wider community, some attendees expressed concerns that new uses, particularly pickleball courts, could disrupt the equestrian environment due to noise and safety issues.

The discussions revealed a divide among residents, with some advocating for preserving the park as a permanent equestrian space, while others supported adding new facilities with appropriate measures like soundproofing and strategic placement to minimize conflicts. Additional concerns were raised about a proposed new entrance on Janss Road, citing traffic safety risks near freeway on-ramps. CRPD officials emphasized that the current plan is preliminary and committed to refining it based on ongoing community input, with a revised plan expected by the end of the year. Further updates will be available on the district’s website.
