Christopher Elliott, son of Grade 1-winning jockey Stewart Elliott, is set to ride the Kenny McPeek-trained Right to Party in the 2025 Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs. Born in 2006, Elliott grew up immersed in horse racing, inspired by his father’s near-Triple Crown win aboard Smarty Jones in 2004. Elliott earned his Derby spot by finishing second aboard Right to Party in the Wood Memorial, securing enough qualifying points to enter the prestigious race. Since starting his career in 2024, Elliott has rapidly progressed, earning multiple stakes wins and gaining the trust of prominent trainers and owners.
Elliott’s rise has been marked by strong performances and a supportive network, including agent Jose Santos, Jr., whose father also rode in Triple Crown races. Elliott has demonstrated professionalism and talent, maintaining a successful record on the New York Racing Association circuit and earning a nomination for the Eclipse Award as outstanding apprentice. With Right to Party showing promise and Elliott’s growing experience, the young jockey aims to make a significant impact at the Kentucky Derby and continue building his own legacy in the sport.
