Charlton Stud Sporthorses, founded in 1967 by Beth and Charlie Fife in Lichfield, New Zealand, has a rich legacy spanning over a century of family horsemanship. Originating from a farm purchased in 1912, the stud began by breeding sensible ponies using their Welsh thoroughbred stallion Super Signal. Nicoli Fife, a high-level competitor and breeder, continued the tradition by developing notable stallions like Charlton Hahndorf and Charlton Javelin, blending Hanoverian and New Zealand thoroughbred bloodlines to produce versatile sport horses excelling in eventing, dressage, and showjumping.

Nicoli Fife personally trains her horses from foalhood, emphasizing a progressive education across disciplines and maintaining a stud of around 25 horses today. She advocates for natural feeding, expert farriery, veterinary care, and well-fitting saddles as keys to successful breeding and training. Beyond breeding, Fife has been an active FEI judge since 1998, judging prestigious five-star events worldwide, underscoring her deep involvement and influence in the international sport horse community.
