The North Dakota Parks and Recreation Department announced that campsite reservations for Pembina Gorge State Park and Rough Rider State Park will open on May 5. Pembina Gorge, becoming an official state park on June 9, features a new campground near extensive trails for hiking, horseback riding, and mountain biking, as well as kayaking opportunities on the Pembina River. A dedication event with activities like guided hikes and s’mores is scheduled for June 3.
Rough Rider State Park, located near Medora and Theodore Roosevelt National Park, will open on July 7 with a redesigned campground offering additional campsites equipped with electrical, water, and equestrian amenities. The park includes part of the Maah Daah Hey Trail, river crossings, and scenic views of the badlands and national grasslands. Construction on comfort stations will continue, so campers are encouraged to plan and reserve early.
