Ranch cutting tests a horse and rider’s ability to separate a cow from the herd and maintain control over its instinct to return, while boxing focuses on controlling a single cow in a timed, one-on-one challenge.

Both events emphasize practical cattle handling skills essential to working cattle ranches, reflecting traditional methods of moving cattle on horseback. The Greenhorns regularly organize field days and seasonal competitions to showcase and preserve these age-old ranching techniques.
