The National Horse Show in Kentucky featured the Taylor Harris Insurance Services (THIS) Adult Equitation Championships, offering adult amateur riders a prestigious indoor finals experience across three age divisions: 18-21, 22-35, and 36 and over. The championships provide a competitive path for riders transitioning from junior careers or starting later in life. Winners included Lori Donfrancesco (36 and Over) who returned to riding after a 35-year break, Brendan Weiss (22-35), a medical device salesman who won on a borrowed horse, and Sophia Blake (18-21), a college student and former junior rider celebrating her first year out of juniors.
Each champion highlighted the personal significance of their victories, emphasizing resilience, balance, and opportunity. Donfrancesco credited her success to hard work and support from her horse, trainer, and family. Weiss appreciated the event’s atmosphere and the balance it offers to his demanding career, while Blake valued the chance to compete at a high level despite a late start and early aging out of junior ranks. The championships underscore the inclusive and supportive nature of adult amateur equitation competition.
