A foal has been born at Ukraine’s Center for Breeding and Conservation of Wild Tarpan Horse Descendants, marking a significant milestone in efforts to preserve the rare tarpan horse, which became extinct in the wild in the early 20th century. This birth highlights the center’s crucial role in breeding programs aimed at reviving the tarpan population and conserving biodiversity.
The tarpan, once a wild subspecies of horse, disappeared due to hunting and environmental changes, but conservation initiatives, including those started at the Munich Zoo, have sought to restore the species. The new foal’s arrival not only advances local conservation efforts but also contributes to a broader global movement focused on protecting endangered species and restoring extinct ones in habitats that closely resemble their natural environments.
