Homicide Hunter, once the world’s fastest trotter with career earnings exceeding $1.7 million and a world record mile time of 1:48.4, has transitioned from a celebrated racing career to becoming a standout competitor in the pleasure show ring. Now 13 years old, the gelding competes in various English pleasure and showmanship classes under MMXX Standardbreds, a team dedicated to promoting Standardbreds’ versatility beyond racing. The team aims to challenge misconceptions about the breed by demonstrating their athleticism and adaptability, helping to boost adoption rates for retired racehorses.
MMXX Standardbreds, founded in 2023, has successfully placed around 275 Standardbreds into new homes, leveraging competition success to raise awareness. Homicide Hunter ranks third in points this year with the Standardbred Pleasure Horse Organization of New Jersey and is expected to compete at the National Standardbred Horse Show, with hopes of becoming a champion in both racing and showing disciplines. The program also educates the public about fractional ownership opportunities in Standardbred racing, aiming to attract new enthusiasts to the sport.
