World Horse Welfare is encouraging horse owners to consider rehoming this winter, highlighting the benefits for three horses at once: the owner’s horse gains a companion, the rehomed horse receives a second chance, and another horse in need can be rescued due to freed space. With 100 horses and ponies currently available for rehoming, ranging from 8.1hh to 16.3hh, the charity stresses the importance of rehoming during winter when welfare concerns increase. Despite challenges like flooding and disease outbreaks, the charity has rehomed nearly 300 equines this year but is operating near capacity, making rehoming vital to continue rescuing horses in need.
The charity offers ongoing support to new owners and reassures them that horses can be returned if circumstances change. While not everyone can rehome, World Horse Welfare urges people to help by sharing their rehoming appeal to reach potential adopters. Featured horses include Tulip, a 19-year-old dun mare; Summer, a 12-year-old Welsh pony with a heart murmur; Phoebe, a sensitive 13-year-old black mare; and Pascal, a 5-year-old project pony. Interested individuals can view available horses and ponies on the charity’s website to find suitable companions and help save lives this winter.
