World Animal Day 2025: Dublin March Advocates for Stronger Animal Welfare Laws Despite Storm Amy

On October 4, despite Storm Amy, around fifty people and some dogs participated in the World Animal Day 2025 march in Dublin City Centre, organized primarily by Tara O’Connor, Kevin Keegan, and Dog Advocacy Ireland. Although the planned route was shortened due to another march causing disruption, the organizers were pleased with the turnout and the strong support they received for their campaign advocating for Stout’s Law, which aims to improve animal welfare legislation. Various participants, including Martina Kenny from My Lovely Horse Animal Rescue and Cathal Leavy from the Party for Animal Welfare, emphasized the urgent need for stronger animal protection laws and greater public and governmental commitment to animal welfare.

Speakers at the event highlighted the importance of building momentum and increasing public engagement to pressure the government into enacting meaningful reforms. They criticized the government’s focus on financial concerns over animal welfare and stressed that animals deserve respect and legal protection as sentient beings. John O’Callaghan of Dog Advocacy Ireland announced plans to organize future marches to continue advocating for better treatment and legal safeguards for animals in Ireland.
