Westspeed Platinum Day, inaugurated in 2021 at Ascot, is a festive event combining family Christmas activities with high-stakes racing for Perth’s industry participants and racegoers. The day features nine lucrative Restricted races for Westspeed Platinum gallopers, with over $1.2 million in prizemoney and bonuses, including the prestigious G2 Ted Van Heemst Stakes. The Westspeed Platinum scheme, introduced by RWWA in 2013 as an enhancement to the original Westspeed Incentive Scheme (started in 1999/2000), offers significant bonuses for horses sired by nominated stallions, alongside trainer/rider bonuses and the Westspeed EPONA Credit Scheme supporting race-winning mares.
The 2025 Westspeed Platinum Day showcased notable winners such as Western Ace, a promising colt from a strong family line, and London’s Rascal, a filly purchased for just $1,000 who triumphed at long odds. Other highlights included Major Flirt’s surprise victory, He’s A Machino’s impressive debut, and a double for Westbury Stud stallion A Lot with winners Our Paladin Al and Auto Cruise. The event also spotlighted promising bloodlines and upcoming yearlings from these successful families, with many catalogued for future sales, underscoring the day’s importance in promoting quality breeding and racing in Western Australia.
