Walkabout Farm Therapeutic Riding Association, a registered charity in Minden, is hosting its second annual “Warped Woods Halloween Show” on October 25, 2025. This family-friendly and autism-aware fundraiser features volunteers and program participants dressed as zombies and ghouls along an accessible half-kilometre trail, aiming to raise funds to cover the increased cost of hay bales needed for the farm’s horses during winter. The event is designed with sensory sensitivities in mind, offering lanterns to children and individuals on the autism spectrum who prefer not to be scared, and avoiding overstimulating decorations like foggers, loud noises, or flashing lights.
Founded by Jennifer Semach, Walkabout Farm provides free equine-assisted therapy and other supportive programs for families with special needs, operating entirely on donations. The farm also serves as a sanctuary for rescued and retired horses, offering them a meaningful second career. Funds raised from the Halloween event will support the “Operation Hay Storm” campaign to purchase 700 bales of hay, ensuring the horses’ care through winter and maintaining the accessibility of the farm’s therapeutic services at no cost to families.
