Via Sistina Leads Nominees for Australian Racehorse of the Year 2024

Via Sistina, an imported mare trained by Chris Waller, leads the nominations for the Australian Racehorse of the Year after an outstanding 2024/2025 season highlighted by seven Group 1 victories, including a dominant Cox Plate win. Other notable contenders include Antino, Bella Nipotina, Treasurethe Moment, and Broadsiding. The awards, recognizing both domestic and international performances by locally trained horses, will be held in Brisbane on August 31 alongside the Sportsbet Australian Racing Hall of Fame ceremony, which will honor legends Winx and Black Caviar.

In addition to the main award, several categories feature strong competition: Cool Archie, Nepotism, Vinrock, and Marhoona vie for champion two-year-old; Broadsiding, Private Harry, Linebacker, and Switzerland compete for champion three-year-old colt and gelding; and the three-year-old filly category includes multiple Group 1 winners Lady Shenandoah, Treasurethe Moment, Aeliana, and the unbeaten Autumn Glow. The event also celebrates new Hall of Fame inductees such as Hydrogen, Mahogany, Peter Moody, Zac Purton, and John Tapp.
