Two individuals from Willimantic, Frank Aszklar, 74, and Gina D. Wroniak, 64, were arrested on 11 counts of animal cruelty following an investigation initiated by a citizen tip about the poor condition of horses and donkeys at Aszklar’s property on Scotland Road. Animal control officers observed emaciated horses and donkeys with poor hoof care, and despite warnings to seek veterinary and farrier care, the animals’ conditions did not improve. A search warrant led to the seizure of 10 horses and two mini donkeys, which were placed in specialized rescues for proper medical treatment.
Aszklar and Wroniak were each issued non-surety bonds of $5,000 and are scheduled to appear in court on October 20. The case highlights the importance of community vigilance and animal welfare enforcement to prevent neglect and ensure proper care for animals.
