Tom Carroll Family Honored for 50 Years of Quarter Horse Breeding Legacy

The Carroll family of Harrold, South Dakota, is being honored by the South Dakota Quarter Horse Association for their 50-year legacy in breeding quality Quarter Horses. Founded by Tom Carroll in the late 1960s, the program grew from humble beginnings with the purchase of their first stud, Dunn Boy, to a renowned operation centered around the influential roan stud Kens Twisty Frost (“Frosty”). Tom’s vision was to breed versatile horses capable of both ranch work and arena competition, a philosophy that proved successful as his children and grandchildren excelled in rodeo events on home-raised horses. The program became known for producing intelligent, sound, and trainable horses, with the TC brand symbolizing quality and heart.

Despite challenges, including Tom’s battle with cancer and his passing in 2011, the family remained united and committed to preserving his legacy. Today, the program continues through Tom’s granddaughter Lacey Carroll Juelfs, who operates a breeding and reproduction facility, maintaining the bloodlines of Frosty and TC Classy Concho. The Carroll horses have achieved success in competitions and remain a cherished part of the family’s identity, embodying Tom Carroll’s enduring passion for horses and family.
