Thorpedo Anna, a 4-year-old filly bred and co-owned by Judy Hicks, emphatically reaffirmed her elite status by capturing her seventh stakes victory in the $498,500 Fleur de Lis Stakes (G2) at Churchill Downs. Overcoming a disappointing previous effort in the La Troienne Stakes, she dominated the race under jockey Brian Hernandez Jr., finishing three lengths ahead of her rivals and securing an automatic berth in the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) at Del Mar. Trainer Kenneth McPeek, who also guided her Kentucky Derby/Oaks-winning stablemate Mystik Dan, expressed confidence in her future campaign despite the earlier setback.
Thorpedo Anna’s remarkable spirit is attributed to her dam, Sataves, a “miracle mare” who overcame severe health challenges early in life. Owner and breeder Judy Hicks described the filly as a profound source of joy and inspiration, highlighting the emotional significance of her achievements. With plans to compete in up to three more races this year, including potentially the Personal Ensign at Saratoga, Thorpedo Anna continues to captivate fans and connections alike as she aims to defend her Breeders’ Cup Distaff title.
