A student in central Thailand, Theeraphat Ransaworanan, known as “Ten,” has gained attention for riding his horse, Sunny, to school daily instead of using conventional transport like a bus or motorbike. Ten’s passion for horses began in primary school, and he now cares for two horses, using riding as a fuel-saving and enjoyable way to commute. His friend Chart, a younger student, has also started riding one of Ten’s horses to school, both finding the practice practical and culturally meaningful, even earning money through traditional parades.
The school supports this unique choice, with the director viewing it as a positive reflection of the school’s character. Horses have a longstanding role in Thai culture, from traditional work to modern equestrian sports, with native Thai horses adapted to the local climate. Conservation efforts focus on breeding and health management to preserve these native breeds amid modern challenges.
