Teton County Search and Rescue (TCSAR) responded on the evening of September 26 to assist a 66-year-old hunter experiencing severe distress in a remote area southeast of the Cache Creek drainage. The man was part of an elk hunting group and became unable to continue hiking down a steep trail after dusk. Two ground teams used side-by-side vehicles, bikes, and then proceeded on foot to reach the patient about a mile past the Cache Creek and Horse Creek divide.
After treating the man, the team opted to transport him toward Cache Creek for a potential helicopter landing, but the air ambulance was canceled due to darkness and difficult terrain. The patient was moved in a wheeled litter to a side-by-side vehicle and driven to the trailhead, where Jackson Hole Fire/EMS met him. The rescue teams returned to base by 2:30 a.m.
