Support for Tettenhall Horse Sanctuary as It Closes Its Doors Amidst Challenges

Tettenhall Horse Sanctuary in the UK has announced its closure due to the declining health of founder Billy Wilson and financial difficulties. Established in 1979, the sanctuary was a refuge for equines in need. Following this decision, Wilson’s daughter, Verity, sought assistance from The Donkey Sanctuary, emphasizing the importance of ensuring the welfare of the animals her father cared for deeply.

In response to the closure, seven equine charities have stepped in to provide homes for the sanctuary’s 20 equines, including The Donkey Sanctuary and several others across the UK. Hannah Bryer, head of welfare at The Donkey Sanctuary, highlighted the collaborative effort among various organizations to address the challenges of rising costs and limited resources faced by equine charities. Each animal’s individual needs were carefully considered to ensure their well-being.

Two horses, Tilly and Benny, were compassionately euthanized at home due to health issues, while the remaining horses, Shadow and Pop, will continue to receive care at Tettenhall until the time comes for them to be put down. The situation underscores the importance of teamwork among welfare organizations to achieve the best outcomes for animals in need.
