Marjorie McCoy founded Sundance Horse Rescue & Sanctuary in Wildwood Heights to provide quality lives for horses in need. Operating as a 501(c)(3) non-profit on a five-acre facility, McCoy relies heavily on about 30 volunteers for daily care, maintenance, and medical assistance. The sanctuary re-homes horses and other animals like pigs and goats, while also providing permanent residence for older or medically needy animals. McCoy balances her rescue work with a computer consulting job and dedicates significant time to fundraising and administrative tasks, as financial resources are always limited.
McCoy emphasizes the high costs and responsibilities involved in horse ownership, encouraging potential adopters to plan carefully. Animals taken in undergo assessments for temperament and training needs before adoption. Donations of money, feed, medicines, and equipment are vital to sustaining the rescue. Volunteers receive thorough training in horse care and handling. McCoy stresses that all funds go directly to animal care, driven by her commitment and the support of dedicated volunteers to ensure rescued animals live well.
