The Spartansburg Community Fairgrounds will host the Spartansburg Community Fair Spring Horse Show from May 29-31, featuring a new Sparta Spurs Alumni Show on May 30. Organized by Nicole Thompson, the alumni show honors the Sparta Spurs 4-H club’s legacy as it approaches its 50th anniversary. The event invites former members aged 18 and older to compete in various horse events, including a unique generation gap class where alumni and current members ride the same horse. The show also includes a special traveling trophy in memory of the club’s founder Bernie Skiff and commemorative shirts for participants.
In addition to the alumni show, the weekend will offer a full open horse show with diverse events for all skill levels, camping facilities, food trucks, and vendors. The festivities coincide with a local firemen’s gun raffle, creating a lively community atmosphere. Organizers encourage everyone to attend and celebrate the club’s history and the broader equestrian community. More details are available at the Spartansburg Community Fair website or at local events leading up to the show.
