Sheriff Clarifies Rumors Surrounding Horse-Drawn Carriage Crash Investigation

Calcasieu Parish Sheriff Stitch Guillory addressed widespread social media rumors regarding a December 23 horse-drawn carriage crash in downtown Lake Charles, emphasizing the importance of correcting misinformation due to numerous public inquiries. The crash involved a silver sedan driven by Monica Guillory, who fled the scene after injuring two passengers. Initially issued a summons for hit-and-run and other charges, she has since been arrested and charged with felony hit-and-run causing death or serious bodily injury. Sheriff Guillory clarified that he is not related to the suspect and that the investigation is being handled by the Lake Charles Police Department, not his office.

Sheriff Guillory underscored his commitment to transparency, accountability, and integrity, rejecting claims that personal relationships influenced the investigation or arrest. He highlighted that no one is above the law, including his own family members, and reaffirmed the sheriff’s office core values of integrity, accountability, respect, professionalism, and excellence. Guillory expressed disappointment over the spread of baseless rumors that undermine public trust and reiterated the office’s dedication to maintaining open communication and upholding justice fairly within the community.
