Retired Breeding Horse Finds Forever Home at Darrowby Farm Sanctuary

Fiona, a former broodmare, found a forever home at Darrowby Farm Sanctuary thanks to the efforts of Josie McAllister. Fiona was rescued from an auction pen in poor condition, but now enjoys a safe and loving environment at the sanctuary. The sanctuary provides a refuge for neglected, abused, and abandoned farm animals, treating them like people and ensuring they live long lives alongside humans.

Thanks to support from the Foxwynd Foundation, Fiona was able to find a new home at Darrowby Farm Sanctuary. All animals at the sanctuary are surrendered or rescued, but medical care can be expensive. The foundation’s grant helped cover the costs of spaying and neutering piglets, allowing them to accept Fiona into their care.

Fiona has integrated well with the other animals at the sanctuary, including horses Chey and Flash. The sanctuary hopes to develop a consistent schedule of volunteers to manage operations more effectively and is accepting donations to support the acquisition of future animals. Holiday calendars are also being sold to raise funds for the sanctuary.
