Nearly a year ago, Washington County resident Gina Batten rescued a malnourished and surrendered 7-year-old American Quarter Horse named Cinch from Arizona. After nursing him back to health by feeding and caring for him, Batten and her granddaughter Colbie Westbrook, 12, developed a strong bond with Cinch. Despite initial concerns about his temperament, Cinch proved to be friendly and courageous, shedding the aggressive label given by his previous owners.
Since his recovery, Cinch has competed successfully in multiple horse shows, including qualifying in four categories at the Ohio State Fair and participating in the Washington County Fair during Labor Day weekend. Westbrook, who has been riding since infancy, rode Cinch in various events, even dressing up with him as characters from the Wizard of Oz for a costume category. Batten expressed pride in Cinch’s transformation and achievements, highlighting his improved health, spirited personality, and the joy he brings to their family.
