A rare Eriskay pony filly named Cholderton Solara Seren, nicknamed Solly, was born on September 21, 2025, at Cholderton Rare Breeds Farm to ponies Heather and Texa. With only around 400 Eriskay ponies remaining worldwide, Solly’s birth is significant for the conservation of this endangered native breed. Her name reflects the farm’s connection to the Wiltshire landscape and symbolizes light and hope, drawing inspiration from the sun, Stonehenge solstice, and the Welsh word for star.
Solly is the full sibling of another foal, Cholderton Sunset Attenborough (Sunny), born in May 2024. Sophie McConnell, managing director of the farm, expressed excitement about Solly’s arrival, emphasizing that each new birth is vital for preserving the rare Eriskay ponies and securing their future.
