Puca: The Remarkable Broodmare Making History in Horse Racing

Puca, a 13-year-old broodmare, has gained prominence in the breeding industry after giving birth to a filly by Good Magic on May 5 at Resolute Racing in Kentucky. This filly is a full sister to Puca’s classic-winning sons, Mage, the 2023 Kentucky Derby winner, and Dornoch, the 2024 Belmont Stakes winner. Gavin O’Connor, the general manager at Resolute Racing, highlighted Puca’s unique achievement as the only broodmare to produce two full siblings that have won classic races.

Purchased for $2.9 million at the 2023 Keeneland November sale, Puca has significantly increased in value and is seen as a cornerstone for Resolute Farm. She also has another son, nicknamed Preaky, who is training for future races, and Baeza, another offspring, is aiming for success in the upcoming Belmont Stakes. If Baeza wins, it would mark three consecutive years of Puca’s sons winning at least one Triple Crown race.

Looking ahead, Puca has the potential to breed for another 7 to 10 years and is set to mate with the unbeaten stallion Frankel. O’Connor expressed excitement about Puca’s past achievements and the promising future of her offspring, indicating a bright outlook for her contributions to the racing world.
