The Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) officially unveiled a new, state-of-the-art 21,000-square-foot horse stable at its Academy in Hershey, marking the first completed phase of a $387.8 million project to modernize the 65-year-old training facilities. The stable, designed to house up to 30 horses comfortably, enhances the care and safety of PSP’s Mounted Unit horses, which play a crucial role in crowd control at major events and community engagement. The horses graze on over 50 acres of pasture visible from East Hersheypark Drive, symbolizing PSP’s equestrian tradition.
This unveiling is part of a larger construction effort that began in December 2023 and includes new buildings such as the five-story Marquee Building with classrooms, dormitories, and administrative offices, expected to open in fall 2024. Additional facilities under development include a physical education center, new headquarters for emergency operations, and tactical training villages for high-risk incident simulations. Despite ongoing construction, the Academy remains operational, continuing its mission of training cadets since 1960.
