Three-year-olds that competed in New Zealand’s richest ever race, the NZB Kiwi, are now making moves to Australian and Hong Kong stables. Notably, Public Attention, a consistent performer and winner of the G3 Eskimo Prince Stakes, has been sold to Hong Kong and will train under David Hayes. Praised for his temperament, soundness, and ability, Public Attention is expected to excel as a sprinter-miler. Meanwhile, NZB Kiwi winner Damask Rose has joined Te Akau Racing in Australia, targeting the lucrative A$10 million Golden Eagle after a planned campaign through several Group races in Melbourne.
Other NZB Kiwi participants have also transitioned to Australian trainers, including Sought After aiming for the Golden Eagle, Penman with Chris Waller, and Pivotal Ten under the Hayes team. Australian-trained runners Evaporate and Perfumist, both Kiwi contenders, are also targeting the Golden Eagle. Back in New Zealand, horses like Checkmate, Sethito, and Hankee Alpha remain in training with Lance O’Sullivan and Andrew Scott, preparing for upcoming campaigns. The NZB Kiwi, restricted to New Zealand-bred or sold horses, debuted with a NZ$3.5 million purse and will increase to NZ$4 million in 2026, highlighting its growing prestige.
