Norwood White, Founder of Colbeach Stud and Renowned Pony Breeder, Dies Aged 92

Norwood White, a renowned pony breeder and founder of Colbeach Stud, passed away on 28 April at the age of 92. Born in Lincolnshire in 1932, Norwood developed his passion for horses alongside his wife Renita Ward, with whom he shared a lifelong dedication to pony breeding and showing. Together, they established Colbeach Stud in the mid-1960s, starting with Welsh section Bs and British Riding Ponies. The stud gained a strong reputation for producing top-quality ponies, including several Horse of the Year Show winners, and was known for Norwood’s emphasis on correctness, manners, and movement in ponies.

Colbeach Stud produced notable ponies such as Colbeach Salaman and Colbeach Starlight Express and stood popular stallions like Downland Mandarin. After Norwood and Renita’s active involvement, the stud was taken over by Jerome Harforth, continuing its legacy in pony competitions. Norwood was also a respected commentator for major pony organizations. Following Renita’s death in 2017, Norwood moved to Northumberland to be near their daughter Virginia. He is survived by Virginia and his grandson Archie.
