Netflix is developing an adult animated series adaptation of the indie comic series Powers, created by Brian Michael Bendis and Michael Avon Oeming, and currently published by Dark Horse Comics. The show will blend superhero and police procedural genres, following Chicago homicide detectives Christian Walker and Deena Pilgrim as they investigate cases involving superpowers. Bendis is writing the pilot, and Oeming is involved in the visual development, with Dark Horse Entertainment’s Keith Goldberg and Chris Tongue executive producing. Powers has a rich history, having won Eisner Awards and previously been adapted into a live-action series on the PlayStation Network.
This adaptation aligns with the growing popularity of adult animated superhero content on streaming platforms, following successes like Amazon Prime’s Invincible. The project also marks another Netflix development of Bendis’ work, alongside the graphic novel Torso. Meanwhile, Dark Horse continues to expand its presence in entertainment, recently premiering the well-received dark comedy mystery Kill Me at SXSW.
