Neighbors Campaign Against Alleged Animal Abuse in Cartagena: Horses and Donkey Left in Dire Conditions

Residents near the Bahía Bella development have been advocating for the removal of two horses and a donkey from a nearby property, alleging animal abuse. Campaigners Jacqueline Collins and Lisa Jones have reported that the animals are kept in poor conditions, lacking adequate food, water, and shelter. Despite their efforts to alert local authorities, including the Los Alcázares and Cartagena City Councils, little action has been taken to improve the situation.

The owners were given a 10-day notice to address the animals’ welfare, but no changes occurred. A vet’s visit deemed the horses “okay,” which Collins disputes, emphasizing their dire conditions. Local laws in Spain mandate proper care for animals, but the lack of microchipping and bureaucratic obstacles have hindered efforts to rescue them.

As the situation remains unresolved after five months, Collins and Jones have initiated a petition and sought assistance from local politicians, including Podemos Cartagena spokesperson Leli García. She criticized the authorities for their inaction and expressed concern that the animals could continue to suffer without intervention. The campaigners are determined to keep the issue in the public eye while awaiting a response from the Cartagena council.
