Thirteen neglected and starving horses were rescued by the Kentucky Humane Society from a farm in Franklin County, Kentucky. The horses were found in terrible conditions, with some standing in knee-deep mud and others eating bark off trees due to lack of grass. The owner signed the horses over to KHS for rehabilitation at their Willow Hope Farm in Simpsonville.
The equine care team at KHS is working to slowly rehabilitate the malnourished horses, a process that could take up to eight months. The team emphasizes the importance of not overfeeding the horses too soon, as it could be harmful to their health. The goal is to provide the horses with a better life and show them that humans can be caring and compassionate.
KHS encourages anyone struggling to care for their horses to reach out for help without fear of getting in trouble. Donations to support the work being done at Willow Hope Farm can be made on the KHS website. The organization’s Equine C.A.R.E. program aims to provide assistance and resources to horse owners in need.
