Mystic Lake Named 2024 Florida-Bred Horse of the Year at FTBOA Awards Gala

The Florida Thoroughbred Breeders’ and Owners’ Association (FTBOA) has named Mystic Lake the 2024 Florida-bred Horse of the Year, an honor announced at the FTBOA Awards Gala on May 12. Bred by Peggy Costanzo and owned by C2 Racing stable and Stefania Farms, Mystic Lake also secured titles as the Champion 3-Year-Old Filly and Champion Female Sprinter, thanks to her impressive victories in several stakes races.

Peggy Costanzo received the 2024 Needles Award for Small Breeder of the Year, while Marilyn Campbell’s Stonehedge was recognized as the FTBOA Breeder of the Year for the fifth time, boasting significant earnings in 2024. Live Oak Plantation, owned by Charlotte Weber, was named the leading owner of Florida-breds by earnings, and Khozan achieved a record fifth consecutive title as Florida Stallion of the Year.

Other notable champions included Bentornato as Champion 3-Year-Old Male and Spirit Wind as Champion Older Female. Points of Grace was named Florida Broodmare of the Year, and Saffie Joseph Jr. was honored as the leading trainer of Florida-breds, showcasing his success in both black-type wins and total earnings.
