During the holiday season, many older and isolated individuals in West Michigan face loneliness, but local efforts are helping to bring them joy and companionship. Ronica Froese, president and founder of Little Horses Big Smiles, uses her four mini therapy horses—Charlie, Fred, George, and Stanley—to visit healthcare facilities across the region at no cost, spreading happiness and comfort to residents.
Recently, Charlie visited The Brook of Cedar Springs to uplift the spirits of nursing home residents, demonstrating the positive impact these therapy animals have on the community. Froese emphasizes that Charlie was specially chosen for this role, highlighting the meaningful connection the horses create with those they visit. More information about their work can be found on the Little Horses Big Smiles website.
