Mindframe Wins Stephen Foster Stakes at Churchill Downs, Secures Breeders’ Cup Classic Berth

Mindframe, a 4-year-old colt owned by Repole stable and St. Elias stable and trained by Todd Pletcher, won the $940,000 Stephen Foster Stakes (G1) at Churchill Downs on June 28, defeating 2024 champion 3-year-old male Sierra Leone by one length. This victory marked Mindframe’s second consecutive Grade 1 win this season, following his Churchill Downs Stakes (G1) triumph in May, showcasing his versatility by winning at both seven furlongs and 1 1/8 miles. Ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr., Mindframe executed a well-timed stalking trip before taking command late in the race, improving his record to a perfect 3-for-3 at Churchill Downs and 3-for-3 this season overall.

The Stephen Foster Stakes win earned Mindframe an automatic berth to the $7 million Breeders’ Cup Classic at Del Mar in November, though his versatility opens options for other Breeders’ Cup races. Bred by the late Larry Johnson and sired by Constitution, Mindframe is praised for his physical and pedigree qualities, with Claiborne Farm set to stand him at stud after his racing career. His connections and trainer highlight his exceptional talent and adaptability, calling him a generational horse capable of competing at the highest levels across multiple distances.
