These platforms often operate under the guise of sweepstakes to evade regulatory scrutiny, lacking proper consumer protections and responsible gambling measures. The AGA’s report highlights that illegal gambling operators contribute to an estimated $13.3 billion in lost tax revenue annually.
The investigation revealed that the illegal gambling websites are operating without the necessary Michigan gambling license, breaching state laws and posing risks to consumers. The MGCB is committed to consumer protection and urges residents to be cautious when engaging in online gaming, providing resources for verifying the legality of sites and reporting illegal operations.
