Martha Stewart Provides Forever Home to Two Rescued Friesian Horses from Vermont Animal Cruelty Case

Martha Stewart has provided a permanent home for two Friesian gelding horses, Ulysses and Stewart, seized from the Friesians of Majesty horse farm in Vermont amid an ongoing animal cruelty case. The state confiscated 74 horses over two years, with owner Robert Labrie facing charges. After initial care at Dorset Equine Rescue, Stewart adopted Ulysses outright and is fostering Stewart, planning to adopt him once legal forfeiture is finalized. Both horses suffered severe neglect and health issues but have shown significant recovery under proper care.

Dorset Equine Rescue has played a crucial role in caring for and placing the seized horses, working closely with law enforcement despite receiving no public funding. Windham County officials have completed forfeiture of many horses, allowing adoption processes to proceed, while Labrie awaits trial. The rescue’s efforts have been praised for going beyond expectations in providing care and support throughout the legal proceedings.
