Man Faces Dozens of Animal Mistreatment Charges in Bayfield County

Kim Kingsley, a man from Bayfield County, is facing numerous charges of animal mistreatment, including failing to provide food and shelter for his horses. These charges include a Class I felony for mistreatment of animals/cause death, as well as multiple misdemeanors. Kingsley waived his right to a preliminary hearing and is scheduled for arraignment on March 20, potentially facing over 50 years in prison if convicted.

Authorities seized 16 horses from Kingsley’s property after receiving calls from concerned residents about the animals’ wellbeing. A doctor who accompanied law enforcement found the horses in poor condition, living in inadequate penned areas. Kingsley initially claimed that there was nothing wrong with the horses and that they were wild and unable to be handled, but later admitted to not feeding some of them properly.

As part of the court order, Kingsley is required to provide proper food and water for his remaining animals, submit to animal welfare checks, and is prohibited from buying any more animals. The seized horses will remain in Bayfield County’s custody, and Kingsley is not allowed to contact anyone caring for them. Kingsley’s arraignment is scheduled for March 20 in Bayfield County Circuit Court.
