Maltese Artist Lucienne Spiteri Sets Record with €51,000 Sale at SiGMA Foundation Auction

Maltese artist Lucienne Spiteri reached a new career milestone at the SiGMA Foundation charity auction held at Rome’s Cinecittà Studios, where her oil-on-canvas painting “The Eternal Return” sold for €51,000. This sale set a record for Spiteri, surpassing her previous highest bid of €45,000 for the work “Atlas” at the SiGMA Convention in Malta the year before. The painting artistically explores the harmony of dualities—masculine and feminine, yin and yang—through symbolic imagery including an olive branch, a pomegranate, and the ouroboros serpent, alluding to themes of peace, fertility, eternal cycles, and renewal.

Beyond marking Spiteri’s growing international recognition, the auction also supported charitable causes championed by the SiGMA Foundation, effectively merging artistic success with philanthropy. The detailed composition features natural forms and an angelic figure whose ironic gaze underscores the endless cycles of life, adding depth to the work’s spiritual and existential reflections.
