The ancient royal tradition of the horse parade, known as Paruveta, was celebrated with grandeur on Vijayadashami in Maddikera village, Kurnool district. Rooted in the legacy of the Yadava rulers, the ritual involves members of three royal families—Pedda Nagiri, Chinna Nagiri, and Vemana Nagiri—offering prayers at Bhogeshwara temple before embarking on a three-kilometer horseback procession. The event culminates in a race to Maddikera, where the first family to arrive is declared victorious, accompanied by ceremonial escorts from the Maddi community.
Drawing thousands of spectators, the parade is a vibrant display of traditional attire, regal bearing, and martial spirit, underscoring the region’s rich cultural heritage. Preparations begin weeks in advance, with significant investment in procuring and training horses from various regions. Police presence ensures safety and order, making the horse parade a highly anticipated highlight of the Dasara festivities in Kurnool district.
