Mackinac Horsemen’s Association Receives $11,400 Winter Boarding Grant to Support Horse Care

The Mackinac Horsemen’s Association has been awarded an $11,400 Winter Boarding Grant from the Mackinac Island Community Foundation, funded by several dedicated funds, to support the winter care, training, and boarding of its horses. This grant enables the horses to be housed at a downstate facility where they receive essential year-round conditioning, including training, veterinary care, and participation in local horse shows, which is vital for maintaining their health and readiness.

This funding is crucial for the association’s mission to promote and preserve horsemanship traditions on Mackinac Island and throughout Michigan. Executive Director Julie Raisch emphasized the grant’s importance in sustaining their programming during winter and advancing their long-term goal of establishing a year-round facility on Mackinac Island, thereby ensuring the continuation of the island’s horse heritage.
