Local Cowgirls Kelsey Lauenstein and Jordan Swan Compete in Oregon Trail Rodeo Barrel Racing

Two local cowgirls, Kelsey Lauenstein of Shickley and Jordan Swan of York, are among over 150 contestants competing in barrel racing at the Oregon Trail rodeo in Hastings, Nebraska, from August 15-17. Lauenstein, who recently joined the Women’s Professional rodeo Association (WPRA), credits her mare Foxi for inspiring her to compete professionally after years in regional rodeo circuits. Balancing her full-time banking job and family life, she appreciates the support from her employer and family. Swan, a WPRA member for nine years, returned to competition this year after recovering from a skull fracture. She works remotely as a certified general appraiser, allowing her to compete while traveling, and rides her 16-year-old mare Legs.

The PRCA rodeo in Hastings features eight events, including barrel racing and breakaway roping for women, with contestants from 15 states participating. Shows run evenings from August 15-17 at the Adams County Fairgrounds, with tickets available online and at the gate. Both Lauenstein and Swan balance their rodeo careers with professional and family commitments, showcasing their dedication to the sport.
