Local Couple Rides Andalusians in Tournament of Roses Parade, Fulfilling Lifelong Dream

Dr. Brenda Forsythe and Jerry Beatty, a couple from Guadalupe, made their debut at the Tournament of Roses Parade riding their Andalusian horses. Forsythe, a veterinarian, and Beatty, a director of the International Andalusian Lusitano Horse Association, have been passionate equestrians for years. They bred Andalusian horses and participated in the parade as part of a group representing the IALHA, showcasing the qualities of Iberian horses.

The couple’s preparation for the parade involved months of training for both the horses and riders to ensure they were ready for the sensory overload of the event. Forsythe emphasized the importance of desensitizing the horses to loud noises and crowds by exposing them to local parades. Beatty described the experience of making the turn onto Colorado Boulevard during the parade as an unforgettable rush of adrenaline, with Forsythe noting the personal significance of the event due to her grandmother’s involvement in the Rose Parade.

Forsythe and Beatty expressed their desire to return for future parades, despite the long recovery process, as they found the experience to be worth it. The couple’s participation in the parade was a significant achievement for them as equestrians and breeders of Andalusian horses, showcasing the versatility and grace of the breed. They were part of a group of 16 riders representing the IALHA, highlighting the remarkable qualities of Iberian horses from the Spanish and Portuguese regions.
