Little Nest Rescue, an animal rescue centre based at Brackley Farm in Cadishead, has recently been granted charity status. Since its founding in 2018, the centre has cared for and rehomed hundreds of animals including alpacas, horses, cats, ducks, rabbits, goats, and sheep. The new charity status will enable the centre to access more funding opportunities, provide greater financial security, and expand its capacity to care for animals. Co-owner Vicki highlighted that previously available grants were limited and insufficient, but now they can employ staff like founder Katy, who had been funding the centre through personal efforts such as dog walking and mucking out horses.
The centre is dedicated to providing individual care and attention to each animal, ensuring they have a safe and comfortable environment before rehoming. One notable rescue is Fergus, a young ex-racehorse saved from dire conditions in France, who has since improved significantly under their care. Little Nest Rescue also organizes fundraising events, including scratchcard sales and shopping nights, to support ongoing costs like vitamins and winter injections for the animals. More information about their work and events can be found on their website.
