Listowel Pupils Experience Behind-the-Scenes Day at Racecourse with HRI Racing Juniors

As part of the lead-up to the 2025 Listowel Harvest Festival, Horse Racing Ireland (HRI) hosted a Racing Juniors education day at Listowel Racecourse, welcoming 140 fifth and sixth class pupils from local schools. The children experienced behind-the-scenes activities including meeting racehorse trainer Eoin McCarthy and his horse Jekiki, learning about jockey Calum Hogan’s gear and facilities, and seeing how the grounds team prepares the track. This immersive event aimed to educate young attendees about horse racing and the variety of careers within the industry.

Listowel Races Chairman Maurice Carroll highlighted the importance of these education days in fostering a connection between the next generation and horse racing, encouraging an understanding of the sport and its workforce. HRI Racing Juniors education days are free and designed to inspire children by offering hands-on experiences with racehorses and industry professionals. Schools interested in participating can register by contacting HRI directly.
