Larry Walls Makes Triumphant Return to Harness Racing Training with Promising Gelding Assigned

After more than 20 years away from training winners, Bendigo harness racing hobbyist Larry Walls has made a strong comeback with the promising three-year-old gelding Assigned, sired by Rock N Roll Heaven. After a close second on debut, Assigned secured wins at Kilmore and Shepparton, both driven by James Herbertson. Walls, who has had fewer than 20 starters since his last winner in the 2003–04 season, purchased Assigned at the 2023 Nutrien Sales and trains him from Bruce Morgan’s stable near Lord’s Raceway. He credits a supportive training group and his long family history in harness racing for his renewed enthusiasm.

Walls’ return to training is marked by careful management of Assigned, who faces tough competition as a young horse with only a few starts. With a rich family legacy in the sport—his father and grandfather were notable farriers and trainers—Walls has previously trained successful horses like Strident and Stop The Show. Now, Assigned is rekindling Walls’ passion for training, and he remains hopeful for continued success with the promising gelding.
